I was reading the CBC online, and in an article on HIV-AIDS and the effect of male circumsicion, i found this lovely quote:

"Health officials are hoping the protective findings will be confirmed by two other clinical trials, underway in Uganda and Kenya, before they would consider recommending countries add adult male circumcision to their HIV prevention programs, said Dr. Devin de Cock, director of WHO's HIV-AIDS department.

In circumcision, the foreskin on the penis is removed. The procedure appears to help reduce the risk of infection with HIV because the skin layer is thinner, allowing an easier way for the virus to enter, de Cock said."

The entire article can be found at :

though it isn't earths-hatteringingly brilliant

Am I the only person immature enough to giggle at the fact that Dr. de Cock is talking about circumcision?

Cell phones in California.

I have never seen so many cell phones in all of the twenty-six years of my very sheltered life. Everyone here has a cellphone, and they use them incessantly. The cellphone use isn't limited to the grocery store, or driving on the freeway. My personal favourites include some girl in my apartment complex who was talking on her cellphone while swimming in the apartment pool, and a guy on a bike with a broken-arm-in-a-cast who was talking on his cellphone with his good arm, and steering through traffic with the broken one.

ok. so after i applied for my social security number i went to the DMV (again) , and wrote the written part of the driving exam. The written test was damn easy, and pretty much if you understood that you can't shoot guns from a highway, then you did alrght. The guys at the DMV are starting to get to know me, which is pretty embarrassing, although, I'm begginning to suspect that I don't even need to go through the rigamarole that is getting a California driver's license, since I'm not going to be a resident... details. And yes, the above image is from the California driver's handbook.
